An assortment of Detroit area acts will be giving the lowdown on what's going on musically in Motown at this year's South By Southwest Music + Media Conference.
Motown Lowdown, an afternoon party and showcase for Detroit talent, will take place on March 13 at Holy Mountain in Austin, Texas. Produced by Grand Circus Media and Quicken Loans chief Dan Gilbert's Rock Ventures, the event will feature performances by the Hounds Below, rapper Hush, the Sights, Flashclash, Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas and Jamaican Queens. A second stage, sponsored by the Movement electronic music festival, will showcase Ataxia, Chuck Flask, Passalacqua and Phantasmagoria.
Most of the acts have other showcases or business to attend to during SXSW. American Coney Island hot dogs will be served, as well as McClure's Bloody Marys.
"We just want to bring recognition to the Detroit music and creative community and let the music industry know that Detroit is still a music and entertainment powerhouse," explains Motown Lowdown co-organizer Joe Bellanca, an entertainment attorney with Hertz Schram PC in Bloomfield Hills, which is co-sponsoring the event along with Fathead, Made in Detroit, the Detroit Music Awards Foundation, Paxahau and others.
Motown Lowdown is the successor to last year's Michigan Tastes and Tunes day party at SXSW, which drew more than 500 people.
