AUSTIN, Texas -- Jack White gave fans a treat on Wednesday, March 16, at South By Southwest, performing at the first stop of his Third Man record company’s Rolling Record Store in a parking lot alongside the Frank hot dog restaurant.

Dressed in black and seated, the Detroit-born White – founder of the White Stripes, Racontuers and Dead Weather -- played raw versions of Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” and the White Stripes’ “Dead Leaves in the Dirty Ground” for an appreciative crowd that clustered around him. (The parking lot attendants, however, were a bit disconcerted by the gathering, which blocked one of the entrances.) After his set White briefly DJ’d from inside the bright yellow truck before ducking into the restaurant as the sale commenced.

The Rolling Record store is slated to make two more stops in Austin, on Thursday and Friday afternoons. No one is saying if White will play at those, too, but you can bet the turnouts will be even larger, just in case.
