The Detroit Jazz Festival will make its 2021 lineup announcement a public event this year.
The Livestream Preview Event takes place at 6:30 p.m. April 7 via detroitjazzfest.org, the festival's YouTube page and the Detroit Jazz Fest LIVE! app. The show will stream from the future home of the Gretchen Valade Jazz Center at Wayne State University, without a live audience. In addition to the lineup reveal, the three-hour show will also feature performances by Artist-In-Residence Dee Dee Bridgewater, Cuban pianist Omar Sosa, and Wayne State University jazz students.
Due to the pandemic, the 2020 edition of the festival was held virtually, with live performances carried in real-time online and via broadcast outlets; The streamcast is nominated for a Detroit Music Award in the Outstanding Live Performance, Virtual category. Organizers are hoping this year's festival will return in-person during Labor Day weekend in downtown Detroit.
