The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced an Oct. 30 date, and a new location, for its 36th annual induction ceremony.

After the COVID-19 pandemic forced the 2020 event to be held as an HBO broadcast, the ceremony is scheduled to be back in Cleveland this year, moving from the Public Auditorium to the larger and recently renovated Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse arena. Tickets will go on sale during July, according to Rock Hall CEO Greg Harris.

During a virtual press conference on Tuesday, March 2, Harris and Cleveland Cavaliers/Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse CEO Len Komoroski said they're expecting the live event will be possible by October. "We are optimistic and hopeful," Harris said. "We are pleased to have a date on the calendar and to be working towards that date while monitoring best practices."

Per state regulations in Ohio, the FieldHouse has been hosting crowds of 25 percent its roughly 20,000 capacity for athletic events, and Komoroski said he anticipates those limitations to increase as the year goes on.

Harris added that he anticipates the ceremony, which was held during the spring until last year, to remain a fall event for the foreseeable future.

This will mark the sixth time the ceremony has been held in Cleveland, where the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum resides. The last time was in 2018, inducting Bon Jovi, the Cars, the Moody Blues and others.

Last month the Rock Hall announced nominees for the class of 2021, inculding Mary J. Blige, Kate Bush, Devo, Foo Fighters, The Go-Gos, Iron Maiden, JAY-Z, Chaka Khan, Carole King, Fela Kuti, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner and Dionne Warwick. Voting for the fan ballot is under way via vote.rockhall.com, with Kuti currently leading the pack.

Inductees are expected to be announced during May, with an exhibit honoring them during the summer at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and museum. Harris said there will also be a week of programs and events leading up to the Oct. 30 ceremony.
