System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian wants fans to see his first solo album before they can hear it -- legally, at least.

Tankian is releasing "Elect the Dead" on Tuesday, but at 8 p.m. Monday night (Oct. 21) he'll show videos for all 12 songs as "Elect the Dead: The Short Films -- Theater Listening Parties" at movie theaters nationwide, including the Emagine Novi. "It's mostly impassioned director friends who took small budgets and made these amazing, amazing videos that are some of the best music videos I've ever seen," says Tankian, 40, who worked with music video and independent film veterans such as Tony Petrossian, Roger Kupelian, Diran Noubar and Greg Watermann.

Tankian says the videos will be shown in a variety of other outlets, including MTV and VH1, YouTube and iTunes. They'll also be entered at some upcoming film festivals.

With System of a Down on "indefinite hiatus," Tankian has launched a solo tour that so far has no Detroit area date. He's planning to tour more extensively in 2008.

Emagine Novi is located at 44425 Twelve Mile Road. Admission for "Elect the Dead: The Short Films..." is $10. Call (888) 319-3456 or visit www.emagine-entertainment.com.
