After some initial resistance, Swedish heavy rockers Avatar begin a four-week "Avatar Ages — An Impossible Concert Experience" livestream series at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9. • The London stage production of the David Bowie musical "Lazarus," starring Michael C. Hall, streams through Sunday, Jan. 10, in celebration of what would have been Bowie's 74th birthday. Tickets via dice.fm.

• The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is back — virtually, of course — with a pair of family-friendly pops shows. • "Epic rivalries" is the Metropolitan Opera Theatre's theme of the week, as the company presents a 2015 pairing of Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana" and Leoncavallo's "Pagliacci" on Friday, Jan. 8; Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda" from 2013 on Saturday, Jan. 9; and Verdi's "Il Trovatore" from 2011 on Sunday, Jan. 10. • Mike Garson, Bowie's frequent keyboardist since 1973, hosts "A Bowie Celebration ... just for one day," streaming at 9 p.m. Friday.
