A consortium of Detroit musicians are giving back for the holidays with "Songs That Got Me Through It, Vol. 1," a new EP benefiting the Pope Francis Center, a metro Detroit homeless shelter. Organized by Sponge's Vinnie Dombroski when the group's annual benefit shows for the Center were canceled for the COVID-19 pandemic, the set includes the band's rendition of Iggy Pop's "I Won't Crap Out" along with covers of Bob Seger's "Sunspot Baby" by the Orbitsuns, the Mutants' "So American" by Ricky Rat Pack, Rodriguez's "Only Good For Conversation" by the Hard Lessons, Bettye LaVette's "My Man, He's a Loving Man" by Jennifer Westwood and the Handsome Devils, Wilson Pickett's "In the Midnight Hour" by the Romantics' Mike Skill and Sherri Taylor's "He's the One That Rings My Bell" by the Firewalkers. The album can be ordered via mimirecords.com, with a limited vinyl edition also available from Third Man Pressing.
