The White Stripes Greatest Hits" will certainly live up to its name when it's released on Dec. 4.
The 26-track list has been announced for set, all previously released and covering the Detroit duo's six studio albums and hit singles such as "Fell in Love With a Girl," "Hotel Yorba," "Seven Nation Army" and "Icky Thump." It's the White Stripes' first formal, straightforward compilation and follows archival releases and box sets in recent years from Jack White's Third Man Records.
In addition to the song list, the White Stripes also released a new animated video for "Apple Blossom," directed by Wartella from Cartoon Network's "Mad." The group will also be making a number of limited-edition items available via independent record stores when the album goes on sale next month.
It's release outside of North America will be Feb. 12.
An expanded vinyl edition of the album will be released through Third Man's Vault series, featuring a third LP of B-sides as well as red- and white-colored discs. The collection is sub-titled "My Sister Thanks You and I Thank You," White's traditional concert sign-off that poked fun at his relationship with Meg White (they were actually married when they formed the band in 1997).
The White Stripes broke up in 2011, with Jack White going on to a successful solo career along with bands such as the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather; He recently performed on NBC's "Saturday Night Live." White has also led Third Man's growth, which includes a store and recording studio in Nashville and another store, pressing plant and record mastering facility in Detroit's Cass Corridor.
