Checking out this week's new music releases (all subject to change)...

Album of the Week: A couple of this week's new releases deservedly salute the late John Lennon on what would have been his 80th birthday (Oct. 9). "Gimme Some Truth: The Ultimate Mixes" (Capitol/UMe) is a two-disc, 36-song compilation helmed by his widow, Yoko Ono Lennon, and his son Sean Ono Lennon, with, as the title indicates, upgraded mixes and available in several different configurations from single disc to deluxe box set. A variety of artists, meanwhile -- including Richard Barone, the Weeklings, the Midnight Callers, the Grip Weeks and others -- give the former Beatle his props on "JEM Records Celebrates John Lennon" (JEM), with liner notes by Lennon biographer Kenneth Womack.
