Detroit's Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center is putting some new art on the wall, physically and virtually, on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
At 7 p.m. the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will host an "Art @ the Max VII Virtual Experience" to welcome 11 works by seven Detroit artists, donated by the Applebaum Family Foundation. The half-hour event -- which will be streamed on the DSO's Facebook page and via dso.org/watchparties -- will unveil the pieces and feature a performance by a trio of DSO musicians, inspired by Carole Harris' textile work "Blues in the Night." There will also be a brief Q&A.
The artists featured in the new exhibition include Jeanne Bierie, Judy Bowman, Halima Afi Cassells, Sydney James, Carole Harris and Ryan Standfest. It also includes Oren Goldenberg's 2015 short film "In Retrospect: A Requiem for Douglass."
After Tuesday's launch the new pieces will reside in the standing Art @ the Max exhibition and can also be viewed via dia.org/art.
