"American Idol" is headed to the Detroit area once more -- virtually.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the ABC (WXYZ, Channel 7) talent show is holding virtual auditions via Zoom, which will take place on Monday, Aug. 24. Aspirants will audition in front of the show's producers, who will select competitors to move on to actual broadcast competition.

Those wishing to try out can find instructions at americanidol.com/auditions.

Michigan has produced several "Idol" contestants during the show's previous 18 seasons. In 2014, Jena Irene Asciutto of Farmington Hills finished as first runner-up and subsequently took winner Caleb Johnson to her senior prom at North Farmington High School.
