Michigan Opera moves youth programs online, with "Hamilton" actors

The Michigan Opera Theatre is moving its youth summer programs online.

And getting some help from "Hamilton" in doing it.

The MOT's Operetta Remix and Create & Perform, usually held at the Detroit Opera House, will be conducted via Zoom this years. Operetta Remix, which provides vocal, acting and dance instruction for students aged 13-18 runs Aug. 3-7. Directed by Mary Martin, the teaching roster will include Jonathan Christopher and Nikisha Williams, both from the touring production fo "Hamilton," in addition to lauded soprano Cecilia Violetta Lopez. Fee is $150.

Create & Perform, for youths aged eight to 12, will be held Aug. 10-14. Fee is $125.

The MOT recently announced plans fro a 2020-21 season that will include alternate venues and staging to accommodate social distancing and other Covid-19 related restrictions. Specific programs have not yet been announced.
