Celebrity biographer Mark Bego, a Pontiac native, has signed a new book deal teaming with hitmaker Freda Payne for his next project.
"Band of Gold," named after the Detroit singer's 1970 hit, is due to be published during the spring of 2021 as part of a new two-book deal with Tulsa-based Yorkshire Publishing. In a statement Bego says that, "I have known (Payne) for years and her story is a fascinating one that has encompassed, jazz, Broadway, R&B, rock & roll..Freda has worked and associated with a virtual 'who's who' of show business, and she names names."
Bego, a Centeral Michigan University alumnus who now resides in Tucson, Ariz., has published more than 60 books, including biographies of Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson and Elton John and memoirs with the Supremes' Mary Wilson, Martha Reeves and Micky Dolenz, among others. His recent entries include the "Eat Like a Rock Star" recipe book, which is being re-released in November, and "Supreme Glamour," another collaboration with Wilson about the Motown group's iconic fashions.
