Detroit hockey legend and hall of famer Steve Yzerman joined another team during the weekend.
The Detroit Red Wings general manager is part ArtistCAN, an ad hoc Canadian "supergroup" that recorded a version of the late Bill Withers' "Lean on Me" to benefit the Canadian Red Cross' efforts to combat Covid-19.
Yzerman -- a native of Cranbrook, B.C. and a player and executive with Team Canada -- appears at the 3.41 mark of the song's video, sporting a Red Wings jacket and a Canada cap, with miniature Stanley Cups sitting on a bookshelf behind him. He holds up a sign that reads, "Thank you to all the Canadian health care workers putting their health and safety at risk to keep Canada healthy."
The clip -- which premiered during Canada's "Stronger Together" TV special on Sunday, Aug. 26 -- features Canadian musicians including Justin Bieber, Michael Buble, Bryan Adams, Rush's Geddy Lee, Sarah McLachlan, Avril Lavigne, Jann Arden, Fefe Dobson, Serena Ryder, Walk Off the Earth and others. Dobson, Tyler Shaw and guitarist Dan Kanter organized the project.
The ArtistsCAN version of "Lean on Me" is available at all streaming platforms. More information is available at artistsCAN.com.
