From Lizzo to the DSO, the Detroit metro area musicians have some skin in the game for the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.

In nominations announced Wednesday, Nov. 20, R&B/Pop singer Lizzo, born Melissa Jefferson in Detroit, with family still in the metro area, scored a field-leading eight nominations. That includes all four of the top honors -- Record and Song of the Year for "Truth Hurts," Album of the year for "Cuz I Love You (Deluxe)" and Best New Artist. Billie Eilish is also nominated in all four categories, the first time in Grammy history that two artist made the sweep.

"Truth Hurts" is also up for Best Pop Solo Recording, while Lizzo's "Jerome" received a nod for Best Traditional R&B Performance and "Cuz I Love You" is nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Lizzo -- who moved to Houston when she was 10 years old -- is also up for three American Music Awards on Sunday, Nov. 24, and won a pair of Soul Train Music Awards earlier this year.

Other metro area Grammy nominees include:

Hard rockers I Prevail, Best Metal Performance for "Bow Down" and Best Rock Album for "Trauma;"

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Best Orchestral Performance for "Copland: Billy the Kid;"

CeCe Winans, Best Gospel Album for "Something's Happening! A Christmas Album;"

And the cast album for "Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations" for Best Musical Theater Album.

The Grammys will be presented on Jan. 26, 2020 and televised on CBS (WWJ, Channel 62 locally). Visit grammy.com for the full list of nominees.
