Este Haim knew exactly where she was on Tuesday night, Jan. 16.
"I'll probably ask for a car several times during the set," she said during her band HAIM's performance at Cars.com's annual Best Of Awards party at the Fillmore Detroit. "I'm sure there's someone in this crowd who can hook me up."
Representatives from Chevrolet and Ford, of dubious (and perhaps drunken) authority, volunteered, and the exchange illustrated the usual ebullience of the North American International Auto Show event, hosted again by Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath.
Besides the open bar and free-flowing food, attendees were there to hear Cars.com's picks for the year's best vehicles. Volkswagen's Atlas was named Best of 2018 amidst a shower of confetti, while the company's Golf GTI was named Most Fun To Drive. Chevrolet too honors for Eco Friendly Car of the Year (the Bolt EV) and Best Pickup of the Year (the Colorado ZR2), while the Chrysler Pacifica was Family Car of the Year and the Audi A4 was Luxury Car of the Year.
Bleachers opened the night with an energetic 40-minute set of favorites such as "I Miss Those Days," "Rollercoaster," "You're Still A Mystery" and "I Wanna Get Better," while frontman Jack Antonoff acknowledged his status as the only artist to play the event twice -- he was with .fun for the previous performance – declaring “I’ve been here! I’m back!” HAIM, meanwhile, closed the night with a 50-minute show, covering Shania Twain's "That Don't Impress Me Much" alongside material from its 2017 album "Days Are Gone."
