Eminem’s film debut, “8 Mile” will celebrate its 15th anniversary next month will a screening in Detroit.
The Oakland County-based rapper’s Shady Records will host a screening of “8 Mile” at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Bel Air Luxury Cinema, 10100 W. Eight Mile Road, Detroit. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, Oct. $8, via shadyrecords.com and belairluxurycinema.com with proceeds going to the Verses Project, a nationwide project that teaches literacy skills to youth through music production and songwriting.
The screening is being billed as a “red carpet” event, but it’s not known who will attend the event. Filmed mostly in and around Detroit, the critically lauded “8 Mile” grossed nearly $243 million in theaters, while the single “Lose Yourself” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
A party celebrating “8 MIle’s” anniversary will take place on Nov. 9 at Saint Andrews Hall in downtown Detroit, featuring peformances by miz korona, who was in the film, and other guests as well as a rap battle like the one depicted in the movie. Eminem recently made news with “The Storm,” a virulently anti-Trump rap he released for last week’s BET Hip-Hop Awards. A new album, the rapper’s first in four years, is expected to be released during November.
