This week's new and noteworthy music releases include...

Judy Collins, "A Love Letter To Stephen Sondheim" (Wildflower): One of music's still-great voices does more than justice to one composer's landmark song catalog.

Colin Hay, "Fierce Mercy" (Compass): The former Men At Work frontman's 13th solo album is among his most personal and collaborative yet.

John 5, "Season of the Witch" (60 Cycle Hum): The latest solo outing by the Detroit-born guitar shredder and regular Rob Zombie sideman.

Temples, "Volcano" (Fat Possum): The British quartet's second full-length album is a bit more contemporary but still boasts the psychedelic flavor of its 2014 debut.

Ed Sheeran, "Division" (Atlantic): The multi-platinum British troubadour swore off social media during the making of his third album, but fortunately did not eschew strong melodies and clever arrangements.

X Japan, "We Are X" (Legacy): There's been quite a bit of recent buzz over this veteran Japanese heavy metal band, and the soundtrack to the 2016 documentary of the same name provides an able introduction to the hype.
