Pontiac's new Flagstar Strand Theatre will be opening with a classic.
The Russian National Ballet Theatre of 50 will perform "Swan Lake" on Jan. 23 to inaugurate the theater, which is reopening after being dormant for more than two decades. It's one of an eclectic list of nine shows -- including one already for 2018 -- announced by the Strand, with tickets for all going on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, via flagstarstrandtheatrepontiac.com.
Tickets for the Russian National Ballet will run $45--$75. The rest of the Strand schedule includes:
Five irish Tenors, Feb. 2. $45-$75.
Gerald Albright, Jonathan Butler and Marion Meadows, March 4, $59-$99.
David Sanborn and Chante Moore, April 1, $59-$99.
"American Idol" champ Phillip Phillips in a benefit for the Community Housing Network, April 27, $100.
Festival of South African Dance featuring the Gumboots and Panitsula, Sept. 27, $35-$65.
Tango Buenos Aires, Oct. 8, $35-$65.
The Marial Artists and Acrobats of Tianjin, the People's Republic of China, Nov. 1, $35-$65.
Dublin Irish Dance, Feb. 1, 2018, $45-$75.
More shows are expected to be announced soon for the Strand, according to president and CEO Bill Lee. "We want to book everything -- music, theater, comedy, whatever can think of that's entertainment," says Lee, who's targeting more than 150 performances per year for the venue. "We want to make this an exciting performing arts center that's a real destination for people and a reason to come to Pontiac."
