A report that Detroit area singer Jeff Gutt is the new singer for Stone Temple Pilots is apparently premature.
"Entertainment Tonight" reported this week that the Mount Clemens-raised Gutt, a 2013 finalist on "X Factor USA," is in Los Angeles working on new material with the STP. A band spokeswoman, however, says that STP "has been rehearsing with several guys. No decision has been made yet."
Original STP singer Scott Weiland died last year after parting company with the band. Linkin Park's Chester Bennington did a short-term fill-in stint but left to devote full time to his other band, and STP launched an open audition in February.
Prior to "X Factor USA" Gutt fronted the bands Dry Cell, Band With No Name, Acrylic and Punch. After his TV run he headlined a show at Detroit's Masonic Temple and at Arts, Beats & Eats. Most recently he formed a band called Rival City Heights, which released the singles "Take It Back" and "Fading Out."
