Royal Oak High School is part of a busy agenda for New York jazz guitarist Peter Bernstein, who's in the state this week as a Michigan State University Federal Credit Union Jazz Artist in Residence.
The 47-year-old New York native, whose credits include more than 80 recordings -- nine as a band leader -- and membership in the all-star Blue Note 7 and saxophonist Sonny Rollins' band, will be part of the Jazz Expo 2015 at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5 in the school's Kimball Audtiorium. Bernstein will perform with the MSU Be-Bop Spartans jazz orchestra under the direction of Rodney Whitaker. Admission is a free-will donation to the school's Auditorium Renovation Fund.
Bernstien is also performing this week at high schools in Detroit, Spring Lake and Holland, as well as a Friday concert at Fairchild Theater on the MSU campus in East Lansing. Bernstein is also holding workshops and master classes for students at teh MSU College of Music.
