Three Dog Night will be in town this weekend. But one of the group's seminal members won't be -- and, in fact, needs help from fans and any other interested parties.
Jimmy Greenspoon, one of the band's co-founders and an occasional composer, was diagnosed with a brain tumor earlier this month. The tumor has been removed but Greenspoon was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma, and cancer spots were also discovered on his right lung and liver. To allay what appear to be lifelong medical costs, Greenspoon has launched a fundraising campaign via GoFundMe. His page can be found at www.gofundme.com/fvte.3g.
In addition to his musical work with the band, Greenspoon also penned the 1991 memoir "One is the Loneliest Number: On the Road and Behind the Scenes with the Legendary Rock Band Three Dog Night," co-written with Detroit author Mark Bego. He's also worked with America, the Beach Boys, Phil Spector's Wrecking Crew, Linda Ronstadt, Cheech & Chong and others and last year recorded a version of "The End" for a Doors tribute album.
Greenspoon currently remains in the hospital in California, with no word yet on his release.
