Austin Mahone considers his debut EP, "The Secret," to be "kind of a little side project I was putting out just to get more material out there, basically."
What the 18-year-old pop singer is really looking forward to is his first full-length album, which he'll start recording in the coming weeks, after he finishes his current concert tour during October in Brazil.
"We have awesome songs lined up and a lot of good people I'm working with" says Mahone, a Texas native who's now in Miami and has made his mark in the pop world with singles such as "What About Love," "Say Somethin," "Say You're Just a Friend" with Flo Rida" and "Mmm Yeah" with Pitbull. He also won fans by opening dates for Taylor Swift during her 2013 stadium tour.
"I'm probably going to stick wtih pop for the most part," Mahone predicts, "but I'll try some different styles, too. I'm gonna jump out to a little more EDM, maybe some R&B, different stuff like that."
With "The Secret" -- which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 after its late May release -- Mahone says he deliberately wanted to create something down the middle of pop world to help build an audience.
"I was going for that *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys kind of vibe because I knew a lot of the older girls like that, and I wanted to get some older fans as well," explains Mahone, who also hopes to do more acting after appearing in the TV shows "Big Time Rush," "The Millers" and "Awesome TV." So I just put that out there for everyone, and I definitely see a lot of people who have tweeted me and Facebooked me saying, 'I've become an Austin Mahone fan now. I see he's trying new styles and things.' So I see people liked it."
