The Detroit Blues Society is selling women -- sort of -- this weekend.

The organization's latest fundraiser is Blues Girls of Summer, an eight-hour affair in Detroit that will feature some of the city's best-known female, and not all blues singers. Thornetta Davis, Laura Rain and the Ceasars, Tosha Owns & the GTO Band, Kathleen Murray & the Blues Council, Eliza Neals, Heather Jones, Nikkie Pearse & Cannonball Underground, Jennifer Westwood, Marley & Spoonful and Sandy Mulligan & the Gypsies are all slated to perform, with Detroit blues legend Alberta Adams planning a special appearance to celebrate her 97th birthday.

There will also be a Pretty Outfit Contest for the performers, as well as a "Babes and Blooms" print show inside the gallery..

The show gets under way at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at the Hasting Street Ballroom & Tangent Gallery, 715 E. Milwaukee St., Detroit. Admission is $15. Call 313-873-2955 or visit www.detroitbluessociety.org.
