There's seldom a shortage of good local band shows taking place on any given weekend in the Detroit metro area, but the next few days have more than the usual share of special events by music-playing homeboys and girls. These include...

* The genre-blending St. Clair Shores troupe Cold English rolls out its sophomore album, "One Room. One Band. One Take." on Friday, May 9, at the Magic Bag, 22920 Woodward Ave., Ferndale. Doors open at 8 p.m. Of Mice and Musicians, RacecarracecaR and Eddie Logix also perform. Admission is $8. Call 248-544-3030 or visit www.themagicbag.com.

* Funky rockers the Infatuations and downriver singer-songwriter Ty Stone have teamed up for a joint release party on Saturday, May 10, at Detroit's Saint Andrews Hall. The Infatuations, winners of four Detroit Music Awards last month, are bringing out their first full-length, "Detroit Block Party," while Stone will deliver his second, "The Boulevard." Saint Andrew's is located at 431 E. Congress St. Doors open at 6 p.m. with Stereo Jane and Shotgun Soul also on the bill. Admission is $10 in advance, $13 at the door. Call 313-961-6358 or visit www.saintandrewsdetroit.com.

* Margaret Doll Rod of the currently inactive Demolition Doll Rods, plays Saturday, May 10, at PJ's Lager House to celebrate her four-song EP "Margaret." The set includes three originals and a cover of a Chrome Cranks song with Italian actress Asia Argento singing background. Margaret currently resides in Italy but plays Saturday with Stomp Rockets and the Volcanos opening. PJ's Lager House is located at 1254 Michigan Ave., Detroit. Doors open at 9 p.m. Cover is $10. Call 313-961-4668 or visit www.pjslagerhouse.com.

* And while it's not exactly a release party, the award-winning bluegrass quartet Cats and the Fiddler, after a year apart to go to college, are reuniting for a show at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Heavner's Canoe Rental, 2775 Garden Road, Milford. Aaron Encinas and Ardis Grace will also perform. Admission is free. Call 248-685-2379 or visit www.heavnercanoe.com.
