The second Faster Horses festival is nearly four months away. But the Road to Faster Horses is already being populated.

The Road is a series of shows, so far in Detroit and Grand Rapids, designed "as a way to showcase up and coming talent and be able to also talk to the Faster Horses fans on ground level," accordingto Live Nation Entertainment's Josh Newman, who came up with the concept. Blackberry Smoke played during January at Saint Andrews Hall, while a recent show was held at The Intersection in Grand Rapids. This weekend the Road continues with three Detroit acts -- Paulina Jayne, Annabelle Road and Matt Austin, all of whom played on Faster Horses' second stage in 2013.

"They're all doing really well locally," Newman notes, "so it seemed like a natural fit to include them. They've been out there opening shows left and right, so it's always good for them to get up there and take a show by the horns and see their growth, the fuits of their labor."

Newman is hoping the present half a dozen Road to Faster Horses shows total leading up to the festival, which takes place July 18-20 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert and Darius Rucker are among this year's headliners, while the second stage lineup has not yet been announced.

Paulina Jayne, Annabelle Road and Matt Austin perform Saturday, March 29, at Saint Andrews Hall, 431 E. Congress St., Detroit. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. Call 313-961-6358 or visit www.saintandrewsdetroit.com.
