Butch Walker says heís in the midst of ďa last hoo-rah.Ē At least when it comes to touring.
The former leader of Atlantaís Marvelous 3 and noted producer ó whose resume includes Avril Lavigne, Pink, Hot Hot Heat, The Academy Is ..., Rock Star Supernova and more ó has a number of projects he hopes to work on, both for himself and for others. So heís taking his band, the Letís Go Out Tonites, out for one more swing around the country before he hunkers down at his home studio in Malibu.
ďI donít think Iím going to do a whole bunch of Butch Walker stuff,Ē the 37-year-old explains. ďI think Iím gonna do a lot more production for people and also a couple of projects for me but that wonít be based around being a solo artist.
ďI just look forward to doing something new so I donít have to go out on the road all the time and feel like Iíve got to play a catalog thatís 15 years running. Iím glad people want to hear it, but if I get burnt on it and donít want to sing a song I wrote 10 years ago ícause Iím sick of it, what good is that gonna do anybody?Ē
One of the projects Walker has worked on recently is the longawaited third album by Detroit rockers the Von Bondies. He says it was ďa blastĒ and that he bonded closely with frontman Jason Stollsteimer. And Walker thinks the album, which is due out later this year, will be worth the wait since 2004ís ďPawn Shoppe Heart.Ē
ďItís cool,Ē he says. ďItís not garage rock. I think it would be played-out if they tried to do that since they were early on with it anyway. Itís a little bit of a reinvention, and I think itís really good. Itís just ... rock.Ē
