The Magic Stick will rock against war with Saturday’s (April 7th) Anti-War Rally Rock ’n’ Roll Protest,

headlined by activist band the Questions. Also appearing will be Siddhartha, the Freer Bros., Friends of Dennis Wilson, the Bird Dogs, Big Brother, Sugarspell, Cincinnati’s High and Low and others. Jazz guitarist A. Spencer Barefield and his Quartet — David McMurray on saxophone, Donald Mayberry on bass and drummer Djallo Djakate Keita — will play original material as well as covers of favorites by John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus and others Saturday (April 7th) at the Music Hall Jazz Cafe, 350 Madison Ave., Detroit. The Motor City Music Foundation will hold its annual Acoustic/Folk Showcase to benefit the Detroit Music Awards at 7 p.m. Tuesday (April 10th) at Memphis Smoke, 100 S. Main St., Royal Oak. Performers include Jill Jack, Jan Krist, Audra Kubat, JD Lamb, Ethan Daniel Davidson, Luke Sayers, Blair, Jere Stormer and more. A $5 donation is suggested at the door.
