It's been more than two years since the Stooges paid tribute to late guitarist Ron Asheton with an all-star concert in Ann Arbor. The show has been commemorated with a recent DVD release -- which has in turn provided the impetus for a benefit for the Ron Asheton Foundation.

The local band the Bop Shop, which was named by Stooges frontman Iggy Pop after a couple of its members took part in the Asheton tribute, will host a screening of "The Ron Ahseton Tribute Concert with Iggy & the Stooges + Speical Guests" -- including Henry Rollins and Deniz Tek -- at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at PJ's Lager House, 1254 Michigan Ave., Detroit. The Bop Shop will also perform, along with Kill Mama and Hopeless Jack & the Handsome Devil. Suggested donations of $5-$10 will be collected at the door, with proceeds going to the Asheton Foundation's continuing work for Animal Welfare and music education.
