Eddie Money, perennial DTE Energy Music Theatre favorite -- he calls it "my favorite show every year" -- has reached that age. He can sing the Beatles' "When I'm 64" -- and know what he's talking about.

"Oh, man, don't mention that to me!" Money says with a laugh. "I guess I CAN'T sing 'When I'm 64' anymore because I am. But I'm in pretty good health. I feel pretty good. My wife's ot me working out; I've been jogging, doing sit-ups, all kinds of (stuff).

"It happens to all of us, right? What are you gonna do?"

At the moment, Money -- who was born Eddie Mahoney in Brooklyn and has a catalog of rock hits such as "Two Tickets to Paradise," "Baby Hold On" and "Take Me Home Tonight" -- has quite a bit he's doing. He's continuing to develop "Two Tickets to Paradise," a stage musical based on his music and some new songs. He's also helping his daughter, Jesse, with her music career and has his own "great record" in the works. Money is also active with the Fallen Heroes Fund and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and he sings "Two Tickets to Paradise" in a popular Geico auto insurance ad that began airing last year.

"My wife wanted me to get back on TV," recalls Money. His wife, Laurie was also supposed to be in the ad "but she wound up on the cutting room floor. We (filmed) the commercial 40 times, I think, and the used the very last one, where I sang (the song) a capella.

"People say to my wife, 'How do you like your husband's commercial?' She's on the cutting room floor, don't forget, so she says, 'He sound pitchy...' "

Eddie Money, American Secrets and Tripper perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the DTE Energy Music Theatre, Sashabaw Road east of I-75, Independence Township. Tickets are $34.50 pavilion, $10 lawn. Call 248-377-0100 or visit www.palacenet.com.
