Jack White and Rodriguez received top national prizes at the 22nd Annual Detroit Music Awards, held Friday night, April 19, at the Fillmore Detroit.

White's "Blunderbuss" was voted Outstanding National Major Label/Distribution Album, while the track "I'm Shakin' " was named Best Single. The soundtrack from the Academy Award-winning "Searching For Sugar Man," meanwhile, netted singer-songwriter Rodriguez his first Detroit Music Award.

The duo Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., meanwhile, won the Outstanding Video/Major Budget award for "We Almost Lost Detroit."

The top DMA recipients -- with three each -- were Barbara Payton, currently on the road as a backup singer in Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band, in Blues/R&B and Rock categories, Scott Gwinnell in classical and jazz categories, and Marq Speck of the band Sweet Crystal in the Gospel/Christian field. Sweet Crystal also won a pair of awards.

Other multiple winners included singer-songwriters Billy Brandt and Jill Jack, country artist Don "Doop" Duprie, singer Eliza Neals, the Ruiners, Nadir, the Infatuations, the Muggs and Cybertrybe. Howling Diablos frontman Martin "Tino" Gross was named Outstanding Producer and Outstanding Blues/R&B Songwriter, while his Funky D Records won the award for Outstanding Label, while Outstanding Country Vocalist Vinnie Dombroski also shared awards with his rock bands Sponge and Crud.

A full list of winners is posted at www.detroitmusicawards.com.

The DMAs also honored veteran rocker Suzi Quatro, the late entertainment attorney Mike Novak and music industry executive Harry Balk with Distinguished Achievement Awards, while R&B singer KEM received a Special Achievement Award for his Mack & Third: A Call To Service charity event.
