Summer Set frontman Brian Dales says the group's current Wake Up & Be Awesome Tour is "kind of like the calm before the storm."

The's because the Los Angeles quintet's third album, "Legendary," comes out April 16, nearly three weeks after the tour ends. But that hasn't stopped Dales and company from playing four of the new tracks on the road, including the first single, "Boomerang."

"A week into the tour we finally announced the new album is coming, and there was a real spike in ticket sales," says Dales, 23. "So now it feels like the beginning of a new album cycle, even if it doesn't come out until after the tour is over."

The crux of "Legendary's" 12 songs, Dales says, is positivity. The group spent nearly a year making the album, starting by all moving into a house together in Arizona that proved unproductive but important.

"We were trying to get two songs done a week, but of course we didn't," Dales says. "But we did get to be off the road and slow down and have amazing life experiences again. We got inspired and had stuff to write about, real things.

"So after two months we moved out of the house and went to California and wrote, like 30 songs. We were more inspired than ever, and they were all about seizing the moment that inspires you and being the best version of yourself you can be. That's what 'Legendary' is about, being your best. Being 'Legendary.' "

The Summer Set will be taking the Wake Up... tour to Europe after its North American run, and the group will be playing this year's entire Vans Warped Tour during the summer.

The Summer Set, We Are The In Crowd, Go Radio and Paradise Fears perform Saturday, March 9, at the Crofoot Ballroom, 1 S. Saginaw St., Pontiac. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 day of show. Call (248) 858-9333 or visit www.thecrofoot.com.
