Sponge fans can get "Plowed" with the band this weekend.
The Detroit rock group is launching a national "Plowed Air Guitar Contest" on Saturday at The Ritz in Warren, where three to five contestants will be chosen to perform their best air guitar version of the band's 1994 hit "Plowed." The winner will receive a prize package that includes a post-show meet 'n' greet with the band and earn a spot in the national finals where a winner chosen from all of Sponge's tour dates will join the group at a show in Las Vegas later this year.
Potential contestants can register with tour manager Michael Pigeon between 8-9 p.m. on Saturday at The Ritz and will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. Sponge is also planning to preview songs from its upcoming album "Stop the Bleeding," which comes out in March and features a cover of Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle." Really.
Sponge, Glen Meadows, Digital Love, Rex Antenna and P-Funk perform Saturday, Feb. 9, at The Ritz, 24300 Hoover Road in Warren. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 day of show. Call 586-756-6130 or visit www.facebook.com/theritzvenue.
