Anyone going to see the a capella group Straight No Chaser during the holiday season knows it can count on hearing the group's renditions of "The 13 Days Of Christmas," "I Have a Little Dreidel" and other favorites from its two Christmas albums.
But with a new album due in February, the troupe -- which formed at Indiana University in Bloomington -- is also anxious to preview what's coming.
"We're using a lot of that music in the show and it's going over really well and it's exciting," says SNC's Seggie Isho, 29, who hails from Rochester Hills and joined the group in 2009. "It's kind of nerve-wracking for us, too, to come out and do a show and not have some of the staple songs people hear every year at our shows.
"But so far there's been no complaints and just cheers, so we hope to keep riding that."
SNC does have one new recording out for the season, however; it joined "The Voice's" Cee-Lo Green on his holiday album "Cee-Lo's Magic Moment" for a version of "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch." "This past summer, while we were recording our album in Los Angeles, we got a call -- 'Cee-Lo Green would like you guys to sing on his album,' " recalls Isho. "We're like, 'What?! Why? Why would Cee-Lo ask us? Shouldn't it be the other way around?'
"So we went up to the studio where he was recording and did the song, and it was great. Moments like that make you pinch yourself -- 'Am I dreaming?' We never expected any of the things that have happened to us, but it just keeps going. It's very surreal, and we're just very blessed."
