Detroit's Jefferson Avenue will be jazzin' this weekend between Marlborough and Ashland streets as part of the annual Jazzin' on Jefferson festival, which takes place Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16.
The Jefferson East Business Association will present 30 musical acts, including Johnnie Bassett, Chris Codish, Ralphe Armstrong, Meri Slaven, the Peter Novelli Band, the youth orchestra Urban Stringz [cq] II and a gospel revue. The event will also feature a Kidzone on Saturday, culinary offerings from the Detroit Food Lab, tours of the waterfront neighborhood and more.
New to this year's festival is an after-hours party taking place in several empty storefronts that are being converted into juke joints and restaurants, with performances by the Global Jazz Project, Gigi Mack, RJ Spangler's Rootsologists and others.
