The lead-up to this year's Detroit Jazz Festival continues this weekend with the Detroit Torino Urban Jazz Project, a joint venture with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra that brings together musicians from the Motor City and Italy.
Guest conductor Damina Iorio will lead the ad hoc Detroit-Torino Urban Jazz Quartet -- which includes jazz fest director Chris Collins on saxophone and Detroit drummer Sean Dobbins -- through original works by Detroit's James Hartway and Italy's Carlo Boccadoro. The performance will be accompanied by projections of photography depicting both cities.
The show takes place at 8 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Orchestra Hall, 3711 Woodward Ave., Detroit. Tickets start at $10. Call 313-576-5111 or visit www.dso.org.
