— Rochester’s School of Rock students take over Callahan’s Music Hall this weekend, with a show lineup that includes: A Tribute to Zappa and Queen, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20; The History of the Blues, 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21; AC/DC, 12:30 p.m. Saturday; Megadeth vs. Metallica, 7:30 p.m. Saturday; Talking Heads and the Clash, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22; and Power Pop Punk, 6 p.m. Sunday. — Wordsmiths from around the metro area will compete in the Fe La! Poetry Slam #2, taking place at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, in the Jazz Cafe at the Music Hall Center, 350 Madison Ave., Detroit. Winners will receive tickets for the upcoming production of “Fela!,” running Feb. 14-March 4 at the Music Hall, along with other prizes. Tickets and competition fee are both $10. — Six heavy and modern rock groups — Endeavors, Cities and Years, Mayor Mayor, Gateways, Forms and Pursuing Victory — take part in the Jamboree Battle of the Bands on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Pike Room in the Crofoot, 1 S. Saginaw St., Pontiac. The winner will get a spot on The Jamboree festival, which takes place April 14-15 in Toledo. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10.
