* Comic singer-songwriter J. Chris Newberg, from "America's Got Talent," "Last Comic Standing" and Comedy Central's "Premium Blend," come shome for a pair of shows -- 7 and 10 p.m. -- Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Magic Bag, 22920 Woodward Ave., Detroit. * Troy-based Something Utopic celebrates the release of its new album, "Synthesis," with a show on Friday, Nov. 25, at the Pike Room in the Crofoot, 1 S. Saginaw St., Pontiac. * Small's in Hamtramck continues its 12th anniversary week with a full weekend of shows starting with Sponge headlines on Friday, Nov. 25 with Curbside Beauty and Saturnine Hello; cover is $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Mean Mother and Scandinavian Pleather play Saturday, Nov. 26; cover is $6, $10 for under 21. And the Los Angeles band Touche Amore headlines a bill on Sunday, Nov. 27 for $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Doors open at 8 p.m. all three nights. Small's is located at 10339 Conant. * The Ark, Ann Arbor's venerable listening room, has a true home-for-the-holidays weekend lined up this year. Singer-songwriter Matt Watroba kicks things off at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25 (tickets are $15), while boogie-woogie piano specialist Mr. B plays at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 ($20).
