Citing a "breach of contract," Kid Rock has canceled his planned performance at the American Cancer Society's 9th annual Cattle Baron's Ball on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Joe Louis Arena.
Rock posted a note on his official web site Friday, Oct. 28, stating, "I am a man of my word. Due to a breach of contract we will not be performing at the Cattle Baron's ball..." Rock's publicist said there would be no further explanation.
Rock was in downtown Detroit on Thursday, Oct. 27, shooting a video for his next single, "Care." He begins a tour on Nov. 10 in Atlanta; 10 of the 14 dates will raise money for charities in the cities he's playing, and Rock has spoken of possibly doing a Detroit area show in December.
In a statement
The American Cancer Society's Christine Benke said Friday that Rock's cancellation is "a big disappointment and we share in that with everybody." She said that about 1,2000 tickets had been sold for the event, and that the organization is "prepared to issue refunds if we do have some folks interested in that." But as of Friday afternoon Benke said she had not received any requests.
"Honestly, most of the people who attend our event really are returning guests and have committed to the event long before Kid Rock was on board and I think truly are interested in supporting the mission of the American Cancer Society," Benke said.
Benke declined to comment further on the reasons for Rock's cancellation.
The Cattle Baron's Ball has raised more than $7 million since 2003. In addition to Rock and his band, Twisted Brown Trucker, this year's event also features comedian/actor Jay Mohr and local country band Annabelle Road as well as a strolling supper, a live auction and other activities. General admission is $350.
