The funeral service for Motown luminary Esther Edwards Gordy will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31, after a public viewing is held the day before.
The viewing will take place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the James H. Cole Northwest Chapel, 16100 Schaffer Hwy. in Detroit. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Bethel AME Church, 5050 Saint Antoine St., also in Detroit. Both will be open to the public.
Edwards, 91 -- an executive with Motown since the company was founded by her brother, Berry Gordy, Jr., and the founder of the Motown Historical Museum -- died on Wednesday, Aug. 24, after a long illness.
The museum is planning a special day in Edwards' memory but has not yet announced its plans.
