The Colour Drawing Fans For Album Release

The Colour’s debut album, “Between Earth & Sky,” has been finished since February, although its release has suffered several delays and is now due out in February 2007 — which not surprisingly, has been frustrating for frontman Wyatt Hull and his four bandmates.

“It’s been hell,” says Hull, 25, who grew up in Kansas and moved to Los Angeles after graduating from high school. “It’s a natural thing that happens to a lot of bands, but when you’re an artist you want to continue to write and grow. To have this (wait) hanging over your head just sucks.”

Hull says the Colour has dealt with the delay by “doing what we can as far as playing as many live shows as possible. When people see us play, that’s when it clicks.” The group is also building some radio and Internet buzz thanks to some pre-release circulation for some of its songs, including the planned first single “Devil’s Got a Holda Me.”

“We’ve started to get a lot of good responses from the Midwest and South, and in the Northwest,” says Hull, who’s been working a day-job at a Christmas tree farm inbetween road trips. “Southern California is getting on it, too.

“We toured heavily for two years before we had a label. We got a booking agent early on that believed in us, so we did a lot of playing and we were able to change our sound pretty dramatically before we were ready to do an album. So we’re really primed; it’s not like we’re just some young band popping out there, y’know?”

The Colour, the Unheard and others perform at WRIF-FM’s Christmas Party Food Drive at 8 p.m. Friday (December 15th) at 23400 Hoover Road, Warren. Admission is $5, and attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items. Call (586) 756-5140.
