Three performances by the String Cheese Incident, a variety of cutting-edge jam bands and dance artists, and classic rockers REO Speedwagon will be part of the inaugural Electric Forest festival this summer in Rothbury, Mich. -- the successor to the Rothbury Festival events of 2008 and 2009.
The festival takes place June 30-July 3 on the Double JJ Resort, with tickets going on sale at noon on Saturday, March 5.
Other acts playing at the festival include Tiesto, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Stephen Marley, JJ Grey & Mofro, Railroad Earth, Michigan's the Macpodz and Greensky Bluegrass, and Shpongle Presents The Shpongletron Experience. REO will headline the Electric Forest's Saturday Afternoon Special, with more bands to be announced soon.
As at the previous Rothbury festivals, camping, swimming, golfing, horseback riding and other amenities will be offered. Good Life VIP tickets will include special on-site accommodations.
"Our goal is to seamlessly integrate music with art," Electric Forest producer Jeremy Stein of Madison House said in a statement. He promised that the site's Sherwood Forest, a highlight at the two Rothbury festivals, "will be bigger and better than ever."
Crowds estimated in the mid-30,000s attended each of the two previous festivals, which were headlined by the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, Bob Dylan, the Dead, John Mayer and Widespread Panic. String Cheese Incident also performed in 2009, while its individual members performed at both festivals. Organizers called off the 2010 edition of the festival to retool it as the Electric Forest
