The Detroit blues community’s version of “Fight Club” takes place on Sunday at the Emerald Theatre in Mount Clemens, as six local bands compete in the local qualifier for the
International Blues Challenge.
The acts are among 33 that took part in six preliminary rounds at area clubs. Two — one each in the Solo/Duo and Electric divisions — will win the right to represent the Detroit area at the international competition, which takes place Feb. 1-3 in Memphis, Tenn.
The music starts at 4 p.m. with the Sax Maniacs, continuing on the hour with the
Front Street Blues Band, Christy & Jeff Howard, Mick-n-Honey, Rusty Wright Blues and Billy Davis & the Grooveshakers. An allstar jam will take place at 10 p.m. while judges determine the winners.
The International Blues Challenge is sponsored by the Blues Foundation, while the local events are administered by the
Detroit Blues Society.
The Emerald is located at 31 N. Walnut St., Mount Clemens. Admission for Sunday’s show is $5. Call (586) 913-1920 or visit www.emeraldtheatre.com.
