It’s a big year for Beatlemaniacs — among other things, the 40th anniversary of “Let It Be” and for the Beatles’ split. But the members of Get Back! Cast of Beatlemania simply take those landmarks in stride.
“Every year is an anniversary of something,” says Jack Petrilla, Get Back!’s Nashville-based leader and Paul McCartney surrogate. “Sometimes we’ll feature something from that period. But just because we do all things Beatles and it’s a chronological show, something from every period figures into the show, so the (anniversary) will be covered.”
Petrilla says interest in Get Back!, as well as other Beatles tributes shows, occasionally “swells” due to anniversaries and other machinations in the world of the real Beatles. So, not surprisingly, last year’s rollout of the Beatles’ Rock Band game and the remastered CDs had an impact that Get Back! is still feeling this year.
“That’s like an anniversary of sorts, too,” Petrilla says. “We hear from people and they say stuff like, ‘Can you do this song, ‘cause it’s not in the game.’ I just got an e-mail from somebody with that very thing; ‘Can you do ‘I Should Have Known Better’ ‘cause it’s not in the Rock Band game.
“That’s interesting. So maybe we will do that. We try to keep it flexible, but at the same time we’re conscious of why people are coming. You don’t often have people ask you not to play ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand.’ ”
