When British singer VV Brown hooks up to open for Maroon5 this week at the DTE Energy Music Theatre, it will mark the British singer’s most extensive U.S. visit yet — a four-week run that she hopes will win over fans beyond the coasts where she’s already played.
“We’ve had some good luck to have a bit of radio play with Top 40 and Hot AC with the single ‘Shark in the Water,’ ” Brown, 26, says. “So I’m hoping there will be some kind of connection.”
“Shark” hails from Brown’s debut album, “Travelling Like the Light,” which hit the Top 30 in her homeland — where it came out in July 2009, seven months before its U.S. release.
“I’ve been living with this album for nearly three-and-half years,” she notes, so she is, not surprisingly, “dying to start my second album. I was a different person back then.”
Brown hopes to get some concentrated writing time in after her U.S. tour ends on Sept. 4.
“I think this second album is going to be an album of questions. It won’t be about love and heartache and that kind of stuff. I think it’s going to be poetic and ask questions I have about the world — that’s if my record company doesn’t get nervous about it. It doesn’t sound very Top 40, does it?”
VV Brown performs with Maroon5 at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at the DTE Energy Music Theatre, Sashabaw Road east of I-75, Independence Township. Tickets are $46.50 pavilion and $25 lawn with a $75 lawn four-pack. Call 248-377-0100 or visit www.palacenet.com.
