There will be some noteworthy music show on big screens in the Metro Detroit area during the next week.

Ivan Kral was not just a member of the Patti Smith Group between 1974-80 — he was also a filmmaker, taking priceless footage of the Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie, Television and many others during the heyday of New York City’s legendary CBGB nightclub. Kral, a Czechoslovakian native who resides in Ann Arbor, turned that into a documentary, “Blank Generation,” which will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at the Michigan Theater, 603 E. Liberty St., Ann Arbor.

Kral will be on hand to answer audience questions after the 55-minute film is shown, and he’ll attend a VIP reception in the theater’s Grand Foyer from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Both events will benefit the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, which offers a variety of services to the homeless.

Tickets for “Blank Generation” are $10 ($7 for Michigan Theater members), and the reception is $50. Call 734-668-8463 or visit www.michtheater.org.

Guitar fans, meanwhile, will want to check out a two-hour showing of highlights from Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, which will be shown at theaters around the country at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 27. The film will include performances by Clapton, ZZ Top, Steve Winwood, Jeff Beck, John Mayer, B.B. King, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Buddy Guy, emcee Bill Murray and others, along with backstage footage and interviews. Locally “Eric Clapton Crossroads 2010” will be shown at the Commerce Township 14, the AMC Livonia 20, the Oxford 7, the Showcase West 12 in Flint and the Canton Cinema, as well as at theaters in Ann Arbor.

Tickets can be pre-ordered and more information is available at www.fathomevents.com.
