Singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat’s sophomore album, the chart-topping “Breakthrough,” has barely been out 10 months, but she isn’t planning to make fans wait too long for her third.
In fact, Caillat is actively working on about 20 “song options” for the album, which she plans to release in the fall despite a summer opening for Sheryl Crow and playing on Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair.
“I’m going to be recording it, like, right now and then in July and also in September to finish it up,” Caillat, 25, who’s working with a variety of producers, including her father Ken Caillat. “It’s gonna be hard to get it done since I’m on tour all the time, and then getting home to record. It’ll be a challenge.”
Caillat can certainly go into the project with confidence; besides the gold-certified success of “Breakthrough,” she also won a pair of Grammy Awards this year for collaborations with Taylor Swift on her album “Fearless” and Jason Mraz on his hit single “Lucky.”
“I have been dreaming of that day my whole life,” Caillat says of the wins. “My dad has a Grammy, and I’ve always looked at it up on our fireplace. To now have two of them in my house is just so wonderful. I’m so proud of those songs, and working with Taylor and Jason were great experiences.”
Colbie Caillat performs with Sheryl Crow at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at the DTE Energy Music Theatre, Sashabaw Road east of I-75, Independence Township. Tickets are $50.50 and $36 pavilion and $21 lawn. Call 248-377-0100 or visit www.palacenet.com.
