Kid Rock is going country in June.

The Clarkston-based rocker has been named as the host of this year's CMT Music Awards, sponsored by the cable music video channel. The show takes place June 9 in Nashville and will air live at 8 p.m. on CMT.

"All I can promise is I will be awesome," Rock, whose hits "Picture" and "All Summer Long" have crossed over into the country charts, said in a message posted on his web site Thursday (April 29).

The awards show will feature performances by Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban. Initial fan voting has already begun on www.CMT.com and runs through Monday (May 3). The four finalists in each category will be revealed on May 11 for a second round of voting.

It's the second major Kid Rock news of the week. On Wednesday (April 28), Rock announced that he'd be making a new song, "Times Like These," as well as six songs from his 2009 shows at Detroit's Comerica Park, available for download through a special promotion with Jim Beam Bourbon, which is one of his sponsors.

Rock is currently on the high seas with his first Chillin' The Most Cruise and also appears on guitarist Slash's self-titled new album. Rock is finishing work on his new album with producer Rick Rubin; no release date has been set yet. Meanwhile, his summer touring schedule includes opening dates for Bon Jovi in North America and Europe, as well as festival appearances in Calgary, Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Sturgis, S.D.
