Bourbon drinkers will be the first to get a taste of Kid Rock's new music, starting in May.
The Clarkston-based rocker and Jim Beam Bourbon, the spirits company that sponsors, him are offering a special campaign that will give drinkers access to a download of "Times Like These," a song from Rock's next album, as well as a compilation of songs recorded during his two-night stand at last summer at Comerica Park. The downloads will be available with the purchase of special edition gift cartons of JIm Beam or the cherry-flavored Red Stag by Jim Beam, beginning next month.
The gift cartons will also promote donations for Operation Homefront, a nonprofit organization that provides emergency financial and morale assistance to U.S. military personnel and their families.
The campaign is notable because Rock has been notoriously resistant to distributing his music online and has not released his catalog via iTunes and other Internet services. It's also the first time a spirits company has distributed music via bottle sales.
Rock is currently on the high seas with his first Chillin' The Most Cruise and also appears on guitarist Slash's self-titled new album. Rock is finishing work on his new album with producer Rick Rubin; no release date has been set yet. Meanwhile, his summer touring schedule includes opening dates for Bon Jovi in North America and Europe, as well as festival appearances in Calgary, Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Sturgis, S.D.
