Eminem fans will give fans their first earful of his upcoming album when he debuts the new single, "Not Afraid," on Thursday, April 29.
The Detroit rapper will premiere the song, produced by Boi-1da, at 10 a.m. on "The Morning After with Angela Yee" program on his Shade 45 XMSirius satellite radio network. The track comes from "Recovery," his sixth studio album, which is due out June 22.
Eminem's manager, Paul Rosenberg, told Billboard.com that "Not Afraid is "not a dark song, it's an uplifting song." He said the entire "Recovery" album -- which replaces "Relapse 2," a sequel to Eminem's 2009 album -- will be "more accessible to more fans. (Eminem) had pretty much completed a whole second album worth of material but at some point he took a step back, looked at it and said, 'I think I want to record some more.'
"But in recording, the album started to sound so different and was going in such a different direction that he decided to keep it going and turn it into a whole new album. The last album was really for the core Eminem fans. I think this record will open that up a bit."
"Recovery" features collaborations with Dr. Dre, Just Blaze, Jim Jonsin and Denaun Porter from D12. There's no word yet on whether Eminem plans to tour in support of the album.
